BrainWorking Recursive Therapy® (BWRT®)

CHILLINGTON, KINGSBRIDGE, TOTNES, DARTMOUTH, SOUTH DEVON & ONLINE

I offer ‘Brainworking Recursive Therapy®’, better known as ‘BWRT®’, here in South Devon and online.

What is BWRT®

‘BWRT®’ stands for ‘Brainworking Recursive Therapy®’, a modern model of psychology, psychotherapy and neuroscience, created by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, MCGI. It uses a totally logical, practical and down-to-earth working method in which it’s not necessary for you to talk about anything you would rather not discuss – the practitioner only needs to know how you feel and how you would prefer to feel instead. BWRT® is unlike any other therapy you might have heard of or read about, using the latest discoveries in neuroscience coupled with your own unique brain processes to help you get better. Only Certified Practitioners have been trained to deliver BWRT® and all have to adhere to a strict ethical code. Find out more at http://www.bwrt.org

BWRT® is a short-term therapy designed to bring rapid and lasting changes by re-routing the brain’s automatic responses. This approach can help individuals overcome anxiety, phobias, and unwanted behaviours without the need to deeply explore past experiences.

Unlike traditional therapies that may involve lengthy discussions about past events, BWRT® focuses on using neuroscience to change how the brain reacts to specific stressors, enabling individuals to break free from negative thought patterns and behaviours. Additionally, BWRT® can serve as a preparatory step for individuals who plan to engage in long-term talk therapy but need to reduce anxiety or stress responses beforehand.

BrainWorking Recursive Therapy® is a cutting-edge, neuroscience-based approach that empowers individuals to create real and lasting change. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, phobias, stress, or habits you’d like to break, BWRT® offers an effective, confidential, and non-intrusive solution.

If you’re ready to regain control over your thoughts and behaviours, consider exploring BWRT®. Your journey to transformation could begin today!

What can BWRT® help with?

While BWRT® is still relatively new and undergoing research by the NHS in the UK for non-complex trauma, it has shown promise in addressing a wide range of issues, including:

  • Addictions
  • Anxiety and anxiety disorders
  • Phobias and fears
  • Self Worth/Self-Confidence Issues
  • Success inhibition
  • General stress
  • Sleeping problems
  • Childhood trauma
  • Bad habits like nail-biting
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

How does BWRT® work?

BWRT® is based on neuroscientific research showing that our brains make decisions before we become consciously aware of them. This automatic process is driven by past experiences rather than the present situation, which can lead to negative patterns of thought and behaviour.

Our primitive ‘Reptilian brain’ is designed to protect us by quickly scanning for past experiences that match a current situation, then triggering a learned response. BWRT® works by intervening during the brief ‘cognitive gap’ before a response is fully formed. This allows the brain to re-route itself and replace unhelpful patterns with healthier, more desirable responses.

What to expect in a BWRT® session?

A BWRT® session is structured, straightforward, and effective. Here’s what typically happens:

  1. The client explains what they want to change (e.g., “I want to feel calm instead of anxious in social situations”).
  2. The practitioner guides the client through a series of visualisation and sensory exercises.
  3. The brain’s automatic response to the problem is reprocessed in real-time, replacing old patterns with a healthier reaction.
  4. The session concludes with the new response solidified, and for many an immediate and lasting change.

Sessions usually last between 60 and 90 minutes. Many experience noticeable improvements after just one or two sessions, depending on the complexity of the issue.

The initial consultation

I would initially suggest a free-of-charge 30-minute consultation, where we will discuss what you would like to work on and any questions you might have about the BWRT sessions. It is particularly important that you feel comfortable working together, as having confidence in me as your practitioner dramatically enhances the treatment. Following the initial consultation, should you wish to continue, we will create a treatment plan you are happy with.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions really depends on what you would like to work with together and how you feel your sessions are going. BWRT is a short-term therapy, many individuals experience noticeable improvements after just one or two sessions, depending on the complexity of the issue. If further sessions are required, we review and agree together.

“I am profoundly grateful to Christine – she is an exceptional therapist. I booked six sessions of BWRT® during a particularly challenging time. At the start of each session I felt exhausted and unable to see a way forward, yet Christine made the process not only easy but genuinely enjoyable. Every meeting brought a breakthrough, leaving me lighter and more optimistic. With her support, I was able to shift long-standing negative eating habits that were usually intensified by stress. She helped me uncover new insights and find greater ease and peace around food. Her kindness, along with her gifted, creative, and completely non-judgmental approach, made me feel safe, supported, and truly understood. I am deeply impressed – both by Christine’s skill as a therapist and by the effectiveness of BWRT®.”
