Counselling & Psychotherapy
CHILLINGTON, KINGSBRIDGE, TOTNES, DARTMOUTH, SOUTH DEVON & ONLINE
Both counselling and psychotherapy are commonly described as ‘talking therapies’. They require a collaboration between you (the client) and me (a professionally trained therapist) to compassionately explore thoughts, emotions and behaviours to discover where any present-day, potentially challenging experiences may have originated.
Psychotherapy is often considered a longer-term, in-depth exploration – a reflective process to tap into and develop insight and self-awareness to foster growth, healing and resources to manage day-to-day emotional challenges with understanding and increased self-compassion.
Although counselling can be regarded as a short-term therapeutic approach, this is very much dependent on your individual, specific support needs. Counselling offers the same person-centred values to support you with empathy, deep listening and non-judgement, as well as a variety of collaborative approaches that utilise, for example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic (CBT) tools and techniques, mindful breathing, or guided visualisations. These evidence-based tools can be highly effective in helping with difficulties such as stress and anxiety, ruminative thoughts, work issues, work-life balance, and much more.
As you may have gathered, there is no need for you to choose between either psychotherapy or counselling, as both approaches can be delivered together in an appropriate combination and provide valuable emotional and practical support. The key is that we will discuss and explore together which approaches will best meet your unique goals and needs. Therefore, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to initially get to know each other and answer any questions you may have.
I very much look forward to working with you.
